How do I create an Account?

When you install the Anquet Maps Mac software, the first time the software is run, it will ask you to either input your account details or it will take you through creating your free Anquet MapServer account.

What are my Log In details?

If you have ever logged into the Anquet website , or used the Anquet MapServer before, then you will have an account on the servers.

The Anquet Maps Mac software uses the same account details to log in as does the Anquet website. If you know you have an account, but don't know the details, then please see the login resolutions page

Please note that creating a second Anquet MapServer account will lead to problems. All of your maps need to be on one account for the Anquet software to access all of them.

The Anquet Maps Mac software connects over standard internet protocols to the MapServer. You must be connected to the MapServer to use the map download service.

Map Manager Log In

If you are not connected to the Anquet MapServer, then you can't purchase or download any maps. You therefore need to make sure you are connected.

How do I know if I am connected?

Inside the Anquet Maps Mac software, use the menu item Tools->Map Manager to open the Map Manager. Click on the 'My Account' tab of the Map Manager. In this page you need to enter your email address and password. These are saved to your computer in an encrypted form.

Then press the Sign In button. If your details are saved on your Mac, Anquet Maps Mac will try to automatically login to the MapServer every time you open the Map Manager.

If you have successfully logged into the Anquet MapServer, you will see the purple text indicating that you have logged in successfully.

What do I do if I'm not Logged In?

If you are not logged in, your first port of call should be the MapServer Server Status page. In the unlikely event that the service is not running, it should be reported on this page.

There are three ways to buy mapping from the Anquet Map Server:

Cut your own – This allows you draw out an area on an overview map using overlapping rectangles and then purchase and download it. As you add mapping, the chargeable price will be updated in real-time from the MapServer.

Popular map boundaries – This is similar to Cut your own, but instead of you drawing out the area of mapping you wish to purchase, you can use popularly defined areas, such as areas that exactly match the Ordnance Survey Explorer paper maps.

Anquet’s favourite map bundles – These are sets of maps that create a product, and are given a set price. All of our CD products are contained here for download. So for instance, an Explorer map bundle would include pre-defined Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 map data, height data, find place information, etc.

This allows you draw out an area on an overview map using overlapping rectangles and then purchase and download it. As you add mapping, the chargeable price will be updated in real-time from the MapServer.

For a simple walk through, please follow these instructions:

1. From the Map Menu on the Anquet Maps Mac Toolbar, select the Philips GB Map
2. Use Tools->Map Manager to open the Map Manager
3. Having connected to the Anquet MapServer select the 'Map Store' tab.
4. Select the Map Type that you wish to obtain a price for from the drop down list.
5. Click on the Define button.
6. Left click on the map, (press and hold the left mouse button), move the mouse to draw a rectangle, and then release the left mouse button to finish drawing the rectangle.
7. If you are happy with the area, click the 'Add' button on the Map Manager. To re-define the area, simply click the 'Re-define' button and drag the area out again as in step 6.
8. Once you have pressed Add, you will see a price at the bottom of the Map Manager, for that area of mapping in the Map Type that you chose.
9. The price is dynamic, and is for exactly the area that you have selected.
10. As you add more rectangles, the price will change.
11. When you are happy with the map that you have defined, use the 'Add to Basket' button to add it to your basket.
12. You can add more maps to your basket, and when you are ready to purchase the mapping, just enter the Basket tab of the Map Manager to complete the transaction.

When you define an area, you can define as precise as 1km squares. When rectangles you have drawn overlap, you only pay for the overlap area once, not once per rectangle.
In this example we drew out our area on the GB Overview map as its a free map that everyone can download.

You can in fact draw out the area on any map that you have available on your system. i.e. if you own 1:50,000 scale mapping, you could draw out an area on that with which to purchase say 1:25,000 scale mapping.

The minimum MapServer transaction for Cut Your Own Map is £10, so it's worth adding a little more mapping to get best value for money.
The more of any one map type that you buy at one time, the cheaper additional kilometres become, so it will be cheaper to make them all at once in one basket.

This is similar to Cut Your Own Map, but instead of you drawing out the area of mapping you wish to purchase, you can use popularly defined areas, such as areas that exactly match the Ordnance Survey Explorer paper maps.

A Simple Example

In this simple example, we will obtain a price for the Lake District National Park in 1:50,000 scale Landranger mapping:

1. From the Map Menu on the Anquet Maps Mac Toolbar, select the Philips GB Map.
2. Scroll the map by left clicking on the map and dragging it until you can see the Lake District National Park.
3. Use Tools->Map Manager to open the Map Manager.
3. Having connected to the Anquet MapServer select the 'Map Store' tab.
4. Select 'Popular Map Boundaries' from the drop down list at the top of the Map Manager.
5. Select the Map Type 'OS 1:50,000' for the Ordnance Survey Landranger data.
5. Click on the '+' mark next to National Parks.
6. Click on the check mark box to the left of 'Lake District National Park' to select it.
7. On the Philips GB Map, you should now see the Lake District National Park highlighted.
8. You should now see the price of £10 for the Lake District National Park in OS 1:50,000 scale data.
9. If you want to purchase this map, use the 'Add to Basket' button to add it to your basket.
10. You can add more maps to your basket, and when you are ready to purchase the mapping, just enter the Basket tab of the Map Manager to complete the transaction.

A Simple Example

In this simple example, we will look at the contents of our Lake District National Park product:

1. From the Map Menu on the Anquet Maps Mac Toolbar, select the Philips GB Map.
2. Scroll the map by left clicking on the map and dragging it until you can see the Lake District National Park.
3. Use Tools->Map Manager to open the Map Manager.
3. Having connected to the Anquet MapServer select the 'Map Store' tab.
4. Select 'Anquet's Favourite Map Bundles' from the drop down list at the top of the Map Manager.
5. Click on the small triangle next to National Park Series.
6. Click on the small triangle next to Lake District National Park.
7. You will now see the list of maps that are contained within this product.
8. As you click on each map in the bundle, the area it covers will be highlighted on the Map in the Anquet Maps Macsoftware. Click on the OS 1:25,000 to see this as in the example above. This allows you to investigate the exact contents of the Map Bundle.
9. The price of the Map Bundle is shown as £100 at the bottom of the Map Manager. This is the price for all of the maps in the Map Bundle.
10. If you want to purchase this Map Bundle, use the 'Add to Basket' button to add it to your basket.
11. You can add more maps to your basket, and when you are ready to purchase the mapping, just enter the Basket tab of the Map Manager to complete the transaction.

For most map types, the Anquet Map Server has complete country coverage. Coverage details, and overview coverage maps where applicable are available from Anquets Map Types page.

For more detailed coverage maps and to see the coverage that you have you will need to use the Anquet Maps Mac software.

Viewing Map Coverage within the Anquet Maps Mac Software
To see coverage available from the MapServer:

1. From the Map Menu on the Anquet Maps Mac Toolbar, select the Philips GB Map.
2. Use Tools->Map Manager to open the Map Manager.
3. Having connected to the Anquet MapServer select the 'Map Store' tab.
4. Choose the Map Type you are interested in from the 'Map Type' drop down box.
5. Check the tick box for 'Coverage available'.
6. On the map, the areas available will now be shaded. This shading will work on any base maps that you have installed, not just the Philips GB map we used in this example.

To see coverage you already have on your machine, to avoid purchasing duplicate mapping:

1. From the Map Menu on the Anquet Maps Mac Toolbar, select the Philips GB Map.
2. Use Tools->Map Manager to open the Map Manager.
3. Having connected to the Anquet MapServer select the 'Map Store' tab.
4. Choose the Map Type you are interested in from the 'Map Type' drop down box.
5. Check the tick box for 'Current Coverage'.
6. On the map, the areas you currently have installed on your machine, or available for download from the MapServer will now be shaded. This shading will work on any base maps that you have installed, not just the Philips GB map we used in this example.

Anquet Maps Mac allows you to download sample maps. This enables you to try various Map types before you invest in them.

A Simple Example

1. Use Tools->Map Manager to open the Map Manager.
2. Having connected to the Anquet MapServer select the 'My Maps' tab.
3. Select 'Free Maps' from the drop down list at the top of the Map Manager.
4. Click on the small triangle to reveal the list of maps contained within the free map categories.
5. Select the map that you wish to download, and then click the 'Download' button.
6. You can select more maps in the same way, and select the 'Downloads; tab to view the current progress.

Creating accurate routes could not be any simpler.

Simply locate the area on the map where you wish to make your route.
Right-click with your mouse and from the pop up menu select 'Start Route'.
Use the left-mouse button to make a series of clicks to plot your route on the map.
When you have finished you right-click once again to select 'End Route'.
You can also end on the last waypoint or at the starting point from this menu.

It is possible to drag/edit and delete any part of the route, simply by clicking on the map.

Once a route is created you can select it and display the route profile which will display the altitude(if you have map height data) at any point in the route. A small red dot will show the precise position on the route agains the route data chart.

Adding a waypoint or text is achieved in the same way, using a right-mouse click to bring up the menu to add either.

You can also select and print a 'Route Card' which provides a detailed data set of the route and waypoints that make it up.

One of the benefits of digital mapping is printing maps with your route superimposed in a convenient format.

You print maps by selecting the 'Print' icon on the top menu. This will present you with a print dialogue and you will see a black box (in landscape or portrait) to show what part of the map will be printed.
You can print a different map than the one that is being viewed.

In the print dialogue box you can select the printer to use and the map type you will print.

You can then select the 'Orientation' and the 'Page Layout'.
'Page Layout' allows you to select single page, best fit or tiling options.
'Best Fit' will use the least number of pages for the route, whilst 'Tiling' will print a larger area over a set number of pages.

Anquet Maps Mac is a comprehensive tool you can use to edit and manage your routes.

Once you have selected the route, you can adjust it by dragging or adding waypoints. You can edit the appearance of a waypoint by right-clicking and selecting "Edit Waypoint'.

This allows you to change the appearance, add a text note, change the colour and the font on a single waypoint

You can also 'reverse' a route by right-clicking on the route name and selecting 'Reverse' from the menu. Here you can also reduce the route data, so the route uses less Waypoints.

It is possible to continue a route from any waypoint in an existing route, again with a right mouse-click.

We have thoughtfully designed Anquet Maps Mac so you can manipulate and move between maps easily and cleverly. There are several ways to achieve this.

You can use 'Goto Location' to enter a coordinate to jump to that precise centred location.

You can also select 'Goto Map' and jump directly to the middle of a map file.

Clicking a waypoint or route in the data explorer window and jump straight to that point.

Finally, you can use 'Find Places' to pinpoint a place name.

You can also use a Road Map to scroll around to locate an area and then switch to another more detailed map of that location.
